SECTION 1. NAME

The name of the organization shall be M.M.G. FOUNDATION

The M.M.G. Foundation is a fraternal, Pan-African organisation aimed at propagating and publicising The Philosophy & Opinions of the RT. Honourable Marcus Mosiah Garvey among the peoples of African Descent.

The organisation’s aim is to promote a sense of pride and love for and amongst the African nations. To provide leadership in helping Africans to acquire the skills and Knowledge that are necessary for our advancement in the modern world.


The MMG Foundation will use the capabilities and resources of the Marcus Garvey Memorial Centre to identify, record and protect African Ancestral footprints anywhere it is found in the world.

Note-No person, group or organization may use this name, seal or symbol of the foundation without prior approval of the executive committee.

PURPOSE/MISSION

The purpose of the foundation shall be:

a) To raise funds and receive contributions where appropriate to finance the work of establishing a Marcus Garvey Memorial Centre in Ghana.

b) To open bank accounts

c) To make rules and standing orders for categories of members/affiliates and their rights.

d) To organise meetings, training courses and events.

e) To work with similar groups and exchange information and advice with them

f) To take any action that is lawful, which would help to fulfil its aim.

 

MEMBERSHIP

 

Membership in this organisation shall be those who are actively working on the aims of the organisation and are willing to contribute their time and talents. Donors making substantial financial contribution shall also be given membership and rights pertaining to standard membership.

a) Every member shall have one vote at general meetings.

b) The Management Committee shall have the power to refuse membership to an applicant, where it is considered such membership would be detrimental to the aims or activities of the group.

c) Any member may resign may resign his/her membership or any held position by giving to the secretary of the foundation written notice to that effect.

Note: Members who remain in good standing are entitled to the following benefits; voting privileges, reduced cost to advertised events, eligibility to be drafted as an officer in sub-committees and to be considered for executive committee membership if a vacancy becomes available.

 

MANAGEMENT

The elected officers of this organisation shall include:

a) Chairman

b) Treasurer

c) Vice Chairman

d) Seceretary

e) Elected committee executive officers as deemed necessary for the organisation to meet its aims and ambitions.

Note: M.M.G Foundation shall be administered by a management committee of not less than 5 people. Voting at management committee shall be by show of hands on a majority basis. If there is a tied vote then the chairperson shall have a second vote. The committee shall have power to set up sub-groups and working parties as deemed necessary who shall be accountable to the committee

 

DUTIES OF LEADERSHIP

1)The chairperson shall serve as head of the organisation and be responsible for calling for and presiding over all scheduled meetings, serving as the spokesperson and point of contact, providing a charge and oversight for all committees, establishing goals for the organisation to work towards.

2) The vice chair shall serve in absence of the president, and shall perform such duties as assigned by the president.

3) The secretary shall be responsible for maintaining all records of the organisation (e,g. constitutional amendments, meeting minutes, attendance), and for recording the minutes of all meetings and communicating with membership on behalf of the executive committee.

4) The treasurer shall be responsible for managing organisational finances. Note: Duties may include collection of dues, general bookkeeping and financial reports to the executive committee, deposit all funds in the organisation’s account and approval of expenditure in conjunction with the chair person. Other officer positions like membership secretary duties will be defined by the committee as need arises.

COMMITTEES

 

A) FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE:

B) MARKETING COMMITTEE: Responsible for publicity materials related to fundraising events and community involvement.

C) MEMEBERSHIP COMMITTEE

The chairperson and/or executive committee may create new committees as needed.

 

FINANCE

  • Any money obtained by the group shall be used only for the foundation

  • Any bank accounts opened for the group shall be in the name of the foundation

  • Any cheque issued shall be signed by at least two of any three nominated signatures

  • The management committee will ensure that the group stays within the budget

 

COMMITTEE MEETINGS

  • The committee shall meet as often as necessary to facilitate the success of all fundraising events.

  • The quorum for all meeting shall be three

  • All meetings must be minuted and available for all interested parties.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

  • Receipt of the accounts and balanced sheet.

  • The election of committee members if any change is required

All committee members are needed for the AGM to be quorate.


 


 

ALTERATION OF THE CONSTITUTION

  • Proposal for amendments to this constitution or dissolution must be delivered to the secretary in writing. The secretary in conjunction with all other officers shall then decide on the date of a meeting to discuss such proposals.

  • Any changes to this constitution must be agreed by a majority of executive committee members.
